Replacing the keyboard in an Acer Aspire E1 laptop.
Original keyboard was damaged by someone spilling a small amount of cola on it at the right side, causing most of the number pad to stop working, the arrow keys failed a few days later and then the Q and 2 failed shortly after that.
Acer Aspire E1 series, model V5WE2, E1-572-74506G75Mnkk.
UK model, with UK keyboard, manufactured August 2013.

I have similiar notebook and it has Windows 8.1 with dubious start menu.Classic Shell is a program which can display start menu in Windows 7 style.Anyway works nice.
Thanks John. Detailed and amusing. I've ordered a keyboard!
Is it applicable to ACER ASPIRE ES1-572? or I need to replace the frame to install new keyboard? Please reply to this really need your help. Thank you Sir.
Thank you. I really appreciate the insight you provided with your commentary, many of the other videos I found for the same thing were silent and confusing.
Thank you for a great video! But actually I dont think that its necessary to remove HDD…
narcissists are dismissive. mmmmmmm.
Hi John….just wanted to note that very often with these keyboards you can just place them in a warm water bath for a little while to dissolve any material/stickiness etc (after they were removed from the computer of coarse!). Then they can be gently dried in an airing cupboard or somewhere warm for a day or two and then re-fitted to the computer. There is rarely any permanent damage. Just thought i would offer this for anyone that can wait for it to dry…..then there is no money outlay, only time. Cool video, thanks!
:O but not 55 year old but thank but need my dad Xd
Well done. I viewed a dozen videos on this to try to ascertain which of the two very similar slots the wide keyboard cable fitted into. You were the only one to show that bit explicitly.
I have bought a new ES1-523 laptop and on the side where the numeric keypad is, the keys are not right. you hear that it clicks loose on yzer what can I do?
is just bought new in the store, I want keyboard that is well fixed otherwise a nice laptop
but can not type if she just clicks on one iron and is not so nice
What can I do best? Thank you
Even after watching this it still looks daunting, but the alternative is to spend more $$$ than I can afford, so once my replacement keyboard arrives I'll give it a try and let you know afterward how it went…:/
Hi JW, I'm just wondering if you know of any publishings that would show a keyboard removal/refit for the ACER TRAVELMATE P645-M? I can only find reviews on this. Regards.
I am a 55 year-old female and managed to replace my keyboard following your instructions! Thank you very much!
It would be so nice to share the purchase link. I could not find this keyboard
Acer E1-532-2657
Thank you very much and greetings from uruguay
Nice video, but could do without the Acer hate commentary. Perhaps you should have just spit in your friend/customers mouth for buying such a cheap laptop and refused to lower yourself to a parts swap instead of being able to disassemble the serviceable keyboard built by, oh yeah, no one. Just sain'
Just wanna know, is it possible to change a UK layout keyboard to a US layout keyboard? And does it require a lot of soldering?
Thanks!!
From my perspective, it would make more sense to connect the longest flex cable first and descend to the shortest cable last. By fixing the shortest cable first, you limited your movement to connect the rest. Let me know what you think…
Hahaha..vent holes for water from a wet surface. Very funny!
When I change keyboards, especially when they have had spillages you should clean the holes with where the keys come though.
Great video. Was wondering if static could be a problem whilst working on laptop ? or is the work mat anti static ?
John, if I wanted to build a portable USB charger what would be the best way to go about it? In terms of a circuit board, batteries, resistors? Just out of interest. I know you can buy them but I'd like to build one. I would like to use it to charge an iPhone 5. I have an idea: USB outlet, micro USB inlet and maybe a Lithium ion 9V battery. Any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks.
Hi john. How about a video demonstrating that musical instrument you have there in the background? Looks interesting
Steve
John… The laptop looked like a piece of crap. I hope this job was a favour for a very close friend.
Do you have quite a powerful wireless mic?
I noticed a little crackle on the audio every time your screwdriver touched the laptop chassis, particularly when you had just removed the top housing and the screwdriver brushed against the plate behind the keyboard.
A bit of RF in the air seems the only explanation….
At least it's held together with screws I hear some brands glued together?
Hi John, any chance of a quick disassembly of the broken keyboard, just to see what we're dealing with?
Cola is a nightmare with keyboards, changed quite a few…
Does any one remember the shift lock on the BBC computer. Where did it go?
Programming Java Script would be 1000s times faster with a shift lock key.
Stupid Americans and their crap. (cough power grid, train, LA, News, Tv programs, Radar which we invented,… )
I have changed loads of keyboards but never one that's so convoluted to change, thats a pretend chiclet on the cheap.
also that trackpad way over on the left, what were they thinking?
Hi John, it's good to replace the CMOS battery whenever you strip down a laptop. Like the Windows 8 opinion. You should be busting Windows 10 by now, the latest build is very stable.
Ooooh very good Sir! You have many talents! I'm not looking forward to the day my HP Pavilion 15 hard drive dies, the driver is not accessible! Windows 8 is fine I think but Windows 10 hopefully will be much better.
that looks pretty new
Built down to a price… how true. But it's the consumers that demand that, cheap products. As long as the manufacturer can build it to last the warranty period, it's all good. It's amazing how people generally trust these devices with their sensitive data.
